Kelpy: Book Tracker
Last updated: October 16, 2026
Kelpy: Book Tracker is a personal reading tracker. Your library is kept on your device. No account is required, and the core reading features work offline. Kelpy has no ads, tracking SDKs or generative AI.
What stays on your device
Books, reading progress, ratings, reviews, quotes, goals, achievement milestone history, preferences and selected photos are stored in the app on your device. Kelpy does not upload your library to a Kelpy server. Camera frames used to scan barcodes are processed on your device. Photos you choose or take for covers and quotes are processed and stored locally.
Book search and cover images
When you search online, Kelpy sends your search text or ISBN to Google Books or Open Library. Downloading a cover also contacts the image provider. These services receive your IP address and request information, including the app User-Agent where supplied, and handle them under their own privacy policies. Kelpy caches search results and cover images locally. You can add books manually without using online search.
Purchases and diagnostics
Apple or Google processes Pro purchases and payment details. Kelpy reads purchase information to unlock Pro and stores your Pro status locally for offline use. Kelpy connects to the store after you open Pro or if this device has a saved Pro status or has previously opened Pro. On Android, Google Play Billing may send its own diagnostic logs to Google. Kelpy does not include a separate crash reporting or usage analytics service.
Backups, export and sharing
Backups and exports are created on your device. You choose where to save or share them using the system file picker or share sheet. A backup can include your library, private reviews, quotes and photos, so share it only with people you trust. Reading images are created locally; saving puts them in your photo library or chosen location, copying puts them on the system clipboard, and sharing sends them to the destination you select. Your cloud provider, photo service or destination app may handle those files under its own policies. Kelpy does not currently make automatic cloud backups.
Permissions
Kelpy requests camera access when you scan a barcode, scan text or take a photo. The system photo picker lets you choose photos. Text scanning happens on your device. Speaking a note requests microphone access and, on iOS, speech recognition access. Kelpy uses on-device transcription only and does not save audio or send it to a transcription server. Availability depends on your device and installed speech languages. Saving a reading image on iOS requests permission to add an image to Photos. You can change permissions in device settings; typing and manual book entry remain available.
Retention and deletion
Your data remains locally until you remove it or remove the app. Recently deleted books can be restored for 30 days. Earned achievement milestones remain when book records are edited or removed. Hidden deletion records may remain in the local database after this period; the Recently deleted screen does not erase every database record. Restoring a backup creates a local safety copy, with the three most recent copies retained. Removing the app removes its local app data, subject to your operating system backup and app offloading behavior. Exported files, shared images and device or cloud backups must be deleted separately. Kelpy cannot delete copies held by other services.
Questions and policy changes
For questions about Kelpy or this policy, use the developer contact shown in the App Store or Google Play listing. You do not need to send your library or private quotes to ask a question. This policy will be updated if Kelpy changes how it handles data; the date above identifies this version.
